margev@mindspring.com Wildwood MO Toy Store Owner Married 2 6 2 After Southwest, I graduated from Augustana College with a degree in speech pathology and worked for a year before going to the University of Kansas Medical Center for a graduate degree in deaf education. Kay Heims Hicks and I shared an apartment and fun times while at KU. After graduating, I married a doctor and moved to Los Angeles, Lexington, Kentucky, and St. Louis where I taught deaf children. Our daughter Sarah was born in 1973 and Rebecca in 1975. My husband and I divorced after 16 years of marriage;and in 1985 I made a career change from being an administrator at Special School District to opening Imagination Toys, now the oldest specialty and continually rated "The Best Toy Store" in St. Louis.
I've been married 17 years to my great husband and business partner, Dave. We love the out of doors, traveling, and our yellow labs. We live in St. Louis with a second home in the mountains of North Carolina. My two wonderful daughters live pretty amazing lives in Rye, NY. Both Sarah and Rebecca have 2 daughters and a son with Sydney being the oldest at age 7. Dave and I get to travel from coast to coast seeing them and his son and married daughter who all live in California.
The best memories are of great times with friends. I also really enjoyed being part of the Sachem staff.

Columbus OH Married 1 After graduating from Southwest, I joined the Coast Guard where I remained untill 1971. During that period, I married my one and only wife in 1968. After leaving the Coast Guard, I decided to go into business for myself and through the years have owned car washes in Dublin, Ohio, a convenience store/service station combination, a concrete company, a rental car agency, along with a few other ventures. While living in Dublin, I served as President of the Sertoma Club and was a volunteer fireman. Recently, Anita and I bought a home near Bradenton, Florida where we enjoy spending a good deal of time these days (when we're not hanging out with my sister and our nephews and nieces living in Columbus, too). My best memories are of all the friendships made, not only in our class but in all the classes above and below the Class of '61.

Incidentally, my dad, Russell, Sr, was among Southwest's first: a member of the graduating class of 1926!

bevnlv@cox.net Las Vegas NV medical/retired Married 3 3 girls/3 boys 1 After graduation I attended the University of Kansas Medical School of Radiology and received my certificate in X-Ray Technology. While working in KC, I reconnected with my Troost grade school sweetheart, Michael Haggarty, (Paseo '61) and soon married. We have now been together over 47 years, raised 3 children (two boys and a girl), and have 6 grandchildren (three boys and three girls), ranging in age from 6 to 16. We left the Kansas City area when Mike's job took us to Denver, Colorado. While there, I switched professions and began working for a group of OBGYN physicians whose specialty was infertility and soon became their infertility coordinator. After retirement, Mike and I moved to Las Vegas, NV. Our days are now spent with many new friends who, like us, have retired and moved here to enjoy the warm winters, fabulous entertainment, and too many wonderful restaurants. We travel back and forth across the US visiting family and friends, but our favorite summertime getaway is the short drive to the CA coast.
Best- Knowing my friends from Troost that showed up that first day of 8th grade. Worst-Not knowing the other hundreds of kids!

vicbodney@yahoo.com Leawood KS Investment Advisor Married 2 After graduating from the University of Missouri, I taught high school biology in the Shawnee Mission School District 1965-1969. I entered the securities business in ’69; moved to New York and worked on Wall Street ’71-’74 with PaineWebber where I ran the training department as National Sales Training Manager for a year and spent the next two years in institutional sales; came back to KC and spent the next 20 years as vice president of PaineWebber in institutional sales where I had the good fortune to be the number one producer nationally in my department five years in a row (unfortunately, they keep score in the financial industry by your numbers, not by ethical standards or some other more worthy measure); started my own SEC registered investment advisory firm in 1994, and I enjoy an exciting and rewarding career.

I have a 41 year old son and a 30 year old stepson. My wife, Mary, is the choir teacher at Blue Valley North High School. My hobbies include serving on the board of a nonprofit organization, building computers, travel, exercise, reading, cooking, gardening and family. My most noteworthy observation of the last 50 years is that it went by so quickly.

gbarj@pixius.net Louisburg KS Retired Married 3 18 (Combined) Two Graduated in January so didn't go to graduation. Went to IBM school in KC, Mo. Married Tom Roberts, (Lambda) class of 1959. He was in the Marines at the time. Moved to Maryland for Tom to finish college while I worked at John's Hopkins doing computer work in Silver Spring, Md. We moved back to Kansas City, Overland Park, and both worked at Black & Veatch. While there we were able to go live in Egypt for a year, which was in 1977-78. What an experience for us and our kids. We have three wonderful and successful children. Son, Tom Kane (voice over professional, Yoda, Star Wars Star Clones, www.tomkane.com. Son, Matt Roberts, Editor and Daughter Heather. All three are married, to their first spouses, with a total of 13 Grandchildren. Tom has three biological and five adopted children. (I went to Viet Nam with daughter in law to get two brothers and 6 months later went back again for Danielle) Just a year ago they adopted two Africian American baby boys that are only 7 weeks apart. Heather has three, two boys and a girl and youngest son has a boy and a girl. They are all back in Kansas City now so we see them all the time.

After close to 23 years of marriage Tom and I divorced. In time I married my best friend Gene. I called him "Cowboy" He was country and I was city. who would have thought? He was almost 8 years older than I was with three grown children and three grandchildren. So, our blended family now consist of 6 children, 18 Grandchildren and six Greats! We celebrated our 24th Anniversary just last week. Living in the country on 30 acres is fantastic! I've always loved animals, especially dogs so we ended up having a houseful of them. They are always fenced in so we knew where they were all the time. We did raised Labrador and Golden Retrievers. What fun!!! Oh, along the way we also rescued a few. We have a total of 8 now with the youngest being a very lovable 5 year old, 170 lb. bloodhound. Buford T. Justice. What was I thinking??? Gene is a craftsman and has made many Christmas presents of rocking horses, baby beds, swings, gun cabinets, etc., for kids and Grandkids. We both are blessed with good health so we just keep going and going as long as we can.

The reunion committee has done a great job organizing the 50th. Wish we could be there but one of the Granddaughter's is getting married.

So many good and fun memories. Friends, sororities, fraternities and those gum boxes while pledging ETC.

rita.ellis@harrynorman.com Marietta GA real estate sales rita.ellis@harrynorman.com Married 2 2 2 I went to K.U. for 2 years, married Tom Ellis in 1963. Two children, a boy born in 1969 and a girl in 1973. Lived in Palos Verdes, Ca from 1965 until mid 1975 then moved back to Lenexa, KS and then to Marietta, GA in 1978. Started in real estate in 1978 and divorced in 1998. Remarried this year to Dave Osborne. Life has been good. 50 years is way too long to recap but all in all-no complaints. Fond memories of many people. I remember the Philo rush parties..we were so cool! I remember meeting Carol Nelson, Jan Milligan and Pat Koch before school many times at my house to plan our wardrobe for the day-and smoke those cigarettes. Loved the trips to Winsteads except for the time I sideswiped the push button gear shift 57 Plymouth that was turquoise and white. There were those drives to the border for 3.2 beer.
