gdschill@q.com Mercer Island WA graphic artist Married 2 1 1 I graduated with a BA in graphic design from North Texas University. And while there I met and married a Texan named Gary. We left Texas for the University of Oregon for Gary's doctorate. Before settling in Oregon for twenty years we lived in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Kansas. Two terrific sons were added along the way. In Eugene, Oregon, I was an illustrator and art director for an in-house advertising agency for a department store chain. I also freelanced greeting cards which I totally enjoyed.

Restoring and renovating houses can be a challenge and a curse, but we have done this endeavor starting with our first house in Kansas, and have continued this into a business after we moved to Washington in 1993. Now semi-retired we have more time to enjoy the beauty of where we live, but seeing our grandson who lives way too far away in Calgary, Alberta is top priority. At home gardening is a passion and living in the Northwest there is some form of gardening throughout the year even in our famous rain. Spanish classes paid off in ways I never anticipated as we have been volunteering in a village called El MIlagro in El Salvador. Fifty years goes by pretty fast and I am looking forward to attending my first high school reunion.
The best was art classes with Ms. Beck. The worst was starting high school as an eight grader lost in this huge school, but one soon toughens up and survives nicely.

jhpeterso@aol.com Greensboro NC housewife/grandmother/volunteer Married 2 4 1 Enjoyed 4 great years at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Worked and lived with friends in Chicago for 2 years, then married and went to grad school at Northwestern. After that my husband's career took us to Durham, NC; San Francisco; St. Louis and back to North Carolina where we have lived in Greensboro for 32 years. Greensboro has been a great community in which to live and to raise a family. Not bad to have the mountains 2 hours away and the beach 3 hours! After years of raising children and volunteer work in education and the arts, I am enjoying more travel, golf, bridge, reading, etc. Our daughter and her husband live in Darien, CT and have 3 children and our son and his wife live in Boulder, CO and just had their first child...not hard to guess two of our favorites destinations! My husband will retire next summer and we hope to travel even more. It's been a good life and we feel very fortunate. Think we had a wonderful opportunity for a great education and were lucky to have such a variety of activities that there was something for everyone. Fond memories of wonderful friends!

bjames17@kc.r.com Leawood KS Retired Married 2 4 1 From Southwest High School, I went to Northwestern University in Evanston for four years with a major in Business, and then proceeded to the University of California at Berkeley and got a MBA in Finance. After working for a few months as a cost analyst at the Ford plant in Kansas City, I enlisted in the Army Corps of Engineers (approximately two days after being drafted), and I became an Officer. I served at Fort Leonard Wood for a year before serving in Viet Nam for a year in charge of non-appropriated funds for the Americal Division.

Coming back to Ford in Kansas City during a downsizing, I moved to Chicago to work in the Finance Department of Zenith Electronics Corporation, a maker of televisions and computers. I worked in various Divisional Controller positions for twenty-three years. Most of the challenges in that company centered around minimizing losses in competing with Japanese and Korean consumer electronics companies. Marrying Becky, who was also from Kansas City, when Zenith was bought by LG, a Korean company, Becky and I decided to move back to the Kansas City area. We are now living in Leawood, and are greatly enjoying the retired life.
BEST MEMORIES: The teaching staff at Southwest was excellent, and I enjoyed working on the yearbook staff.

WORST MEMORIES: Sitting in the hall for a week outside the Russian Class for talking too much around the partitions of the new language lab. Hey, has anyone heard of language labs recently?

maryjane@cswinet.com Junction City OR Married One Goofed off for a year at college and then joined the Marines. After training to be a forward observer in an artillery outfit, I went to electronics school for a year. While in Okinawa I requested to be amongst the first group to be sent to Viet Nam. In Viet Nam, I was the only technician in my unit and all the nearby units, so I was the only one in the area who was capable of repairing crypto units, radios, teletype machines, and other essential electronic devices that the military used at the time. Every night, I drove without headlights to distant bases outside the perimeter to deliver secret and top secret messages. At the end of my tour the unit Captain told me that he had no replacement for me and would I stay longer. So I extended once and then one more time after that. Thought, at the time, I was doing the right thing.

When my tours were finished, I worked at nights in the Kansas City Bottoms, unloading and loading trucks. Went to Junior College and eventually graduated from University of Missouri-Kansas City. Along the way I met a woman, Ida, who was also attending Junior College. She earned her masters at UMKC and became a nurse pediatric practitioner. We then traveled to Hyden, Kentucky where she graduated from Frontier School of Midwifery, became a nurse midwife, taught, and then became a medical missionary in Africa. When she got back we loaded the VW camper and set sails to find a place for her to practice. And Oregon is where we’ve been since. Just this year got married. ‘bout time, huh? I've added a photo of Ida taken a few years after we met. Hope you can feel how important she is to me. My pic was taken shortly after I got out of the military.

sjennings45@sbcglobal.net Leawood KS Retired CPA Married 1 2 After graduation from KU and serving my country in the reserves, I worked in the public accounting field for about 6 years at Peat, Marwick (KPMG now). After that, I spent the next 30+ years at Business Men's Assurance Co. in various financial positions.
Life has been fairly simple, but very good. I was fortunate enough to have one daughter with wife no. 2, so we started our family fairly late. Our daughter is a junior in college...and our lives pretty much revolve around her...she's not high maintenance, but...oh well, I'm sure you understand!
When I think about my days in high school, I relish all the wonderful friends I had. Life was so simple back then! And fun!!.

jt12640@earthlink.net Kansas City MO Mission Road Antique Mall missionroadantiquemall Committed Relationship 2 5 1 After graduating from Southwest I attended MU where I received my degree in elementary ed. Came back to KC where I taught 4th grade in the Shawnee Mission School District; retired temporarily to raise my 2 daughters, Melanie and Julie. Returned to teaching at the Loretto Academy for 4 years. Received my Masters of Teaching from Webster Univ.
I continued substituting for Shawnee Mission for over 10 years.
My best memories of Southwest are the life long friends and the great education we received.

The worst memories were the horrible swimming suits we wore in PE and having to walk up the North steps!!

My daughters both live here in Kansas City  in the Brookside area.. Julie has 3 boys, ages 3, 6, & 9.   Melanie has a boy soon to be 5 and a daughter 3.  It has been a joy to be able to watch them grow  and try to keep up with their endless energy!!  I have been very fortunate in being able to take some wonderful trips over the years. Julie and I were in Kenya and Tanzania before her son Jack was born.  Melanie climbed Mt.  Kilimanjaro while still single. The most memorable trip was to the Soviet Union with Penn Valley Community  prior to all the changes.  Presently I am enjoying my grandchildren while still pursuing my hobby of antiques and travel. neusner@fuse.net Cincinnati OH RN Committed Relationship 2 7 2 Life has been truly good! I lived in St Louis after graduation from Washington U. Then moved to Cincinnati. Married Lou Neusner. I have two great sons, Bob and Andy, who live in New Jersey, and excellent daughters-in-law and a really nice stepson and step daughter. I have seven adorable grandkids! Who could imagine that being a grandma could be so much fun! I currently live in Cincinnati, which is as nice as Kansas City. Widowed in '89, married again, divorced but live with ex husband Howard...
As for career, nursing has been excellent for me--I've been involved in a wide variety of jobs in hospitals (neuro and psychiatric), camp nurse, educator at University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati State College. I retired from a community mental health agency a couple of years ago and retirement didn't last long (maybe 3 weeks); I work there part time now and just love it.
I found lots of volunteer work along the way--was president of my synagogue, worked as an EMT in my Cincinnati suburb (yes, they let me drive the ambulance!), etc, etc. I love travel and will be in China for three weeks with my son Bob and his wife and 4 kids shortly before the reunion.
Best memories--good friends.
Worst memory--advanced algebra
